Why Sheffield? It’s the views that do it! 14 July 2006

Friends of mine who have never been to Sheffield have never understood why I love Sheffield so much. Lots of people love their home city, but some people think my interest in Sheffield can border on the obsessive.

Well there are many reasons why I love Sheffield, but one of the best things is the hills. Not the hills on their own, but the views you get from them and the views you get of them. On days like today when it is warm, bright and sunny you can often see for miles and apparently as far as the Humber Bridge and Lincoln Cathedral on a really clear day.

This afternoon I had to visit Castle Dyke playing fields in the Sheffield suburb of Bents Green - there’s a big issue there about fencing which I won’t go in to here but suffice to say it is, quite understandably, upsetting a lot of the residents. If you want to read the full story follow the link below. I took a few photos there and my camera perhaps isn’t good enough to capture it completely but hopefully it gives some sort of a sense as to why I love the views from the hills of Sheffield.
