As soon as the polls closed yesterday my first test as constituency organiser for Sheffield Hallam was successful.

With the constituency boundary changing at the next General Election, I am now also responsible for Stannington Ward, which includes part of Bradfield Parish Council. This is the first time the local party has had to deal with a parish council, and so being thrown straight in to parish elections this year was a bit daunting, although I’ve dealt with them in other parts of the country. As it was, at the close of nominations there were 13 Lib Dem candidates for 13 seats (across four parish wards), and NO opposing candidates. Quite unbelievable. I’d like to assume it’s because of the brilliance of our current parish council team, but I suspect in reality it is down to the incompetence of the other parties.

Speaking of winning elections, I found the following post on the UK Polling Report constituency report for the new Derby North, after I’d made a comment:

I’ve had a look at Anders web-site. One thing struck me….the Lib Dems like to pose as the “local” party, and regularly attack candidates from outside a constituency, even if very nearby. But Anders clearly loves going round the country winning by-elections and Decapitating and so on. The Lib Dem tactic is certainly to put up a local candidate, but they move their machine around more than the other parties.

I think that it could be a compliment, that I enjoy winning elections and have a record of doing so, but I wouldn’t be entirely sure about it. I’m also not exactly sure that I have done much ‘decapitating’.
