Credo
This is a summary of some of the things that I really believe in and are my outlook on life. This is not the full list though, and I will keep adding to it.
Experience as much as you can as you never know what you’ll enjoy. I am not sure whether I am living up to this, but I believe you should give most things a go at least once. Life is full of surprises and you never know what you will enjoy or what you will be good at until you try it. Never criticise anyone for trying things out.
I’m not religious and don’t believe in God, but I do have a strong set of values. I suppose I’ve never been convinced that a God exists, but don’t see that this stops you from having a set of moral beliefs which consciously and subconsciously guides the way you live. I suppose this makes me a humanist, although I’ve never really identified myself as that.
I’m an old romantic at heart. Some people find their perfect partner, some people don’t, but I truly believe that there is someone for everyone out there. You just have to find them. I haven’t yet but I live in hope.
Enjoy music. It doesn’t matter what music you like or whether, like me, your taste is quite varied. What does matter is that music allows you to experience the full range of human emotions just by playing one bit of music. My taste is largely indy pop which can range from great ecstasy to wallowing in depression, but there is also nothing that stirs the emotion more than a very good mixed voice choir.
Everyone should learn at least one second language fluently. I wouldn’t say that I’ve lived up to this belief, although I do speak some Swedish, have a German A-Level and have some understanding of written Welsh. But the ability to go to another country and be able to converse easily with the people who live there makes you understand more about the world and makes you more knowledgeable and more broad minded.
Everyone should get involved in party politics. I am passionate about politics and have very strong opinions, and mine fit neatly in to one particular party. I think other people’s would as well if they really explored what they believed and listened to politicians speaking from the heart. Even if you feel that politics has let you down, don’t let that stop you. Get angry and challenge the system. People can and do change things if they shout loud enough. But don’t expect all politicians to agree with you on everything.
