I can trace my ancestry on this part of my family back to the English Civil War, and is the family I am most interested in. This is the family of my maternal father and they were predominantly farmers and owned a number of farms and land around Water Orton, Curdworth, Hurley and Kingsbury in Warwickshire and in Wythall and Hollywood in Worcestershire.
This is my line of direct ancestors but I have a much more extensive family tree. I am always keen to hear from people you may be researching the same family history and so if you are connected then please write a comment at the bottom of the page. I understand that this family originally came from Kendal and although I have found people researching the Wakefield’s of Kendal I have yet to find the connection to my own family tree.

I am researching the history of an old building that was moved from Minworth Greaves, Minworth to Bournville in Birmingham in the early 1900’s.
It was on land which was acquired in 1898 from William Wakefield (of Hurley) (son of William & Charlotte of Hurley) by the Birmingham Tame & Rea District Drainage Board, for £98,000.
William had inherited the land from a cousin, Thomas Wakefield who had died on 23 Sept 1889.
Census returns indicate that William was living at home in Hurley until 1861. Unfortunately I cannot find him in the 1871 census. In 1881 he was at Over Whitacre, Kingsbury, living with a servant.
In the 1891 census, after inheriting the land etc. from Thomas, he was living at Minworth Hall, with a wife, Jane R.L. Wakefield. It would appear that he married Jane in 1890 (when he was 62 or 63). She was 17 in the 1891 census and appears to have been the daughter of Thomas Jones, the Vicar of Curdworth. Thomas appears to have taken over the living at Curdworth after the death of the Rev. William Wakefield sometime between 1871 and 1881.
In the 1901 census, and after having sold the land to the Drainage Board, they are back at Hurley (Hurley House) (he is 73 and she 26), with a son William V. aged 9 (born at Minworth)
Some of the foregoing needs to be confirmed as I have only recently put this story together. If you have any information about the family, relative to this individual, I would be pleased if you are able confirm some or all of these details.
I am interested in the Wakefields of Minworth as part of my research on the old building, in respect of which I am endeavouring, amongst other things, to put together who owned and occupied it.
Thank you,
David Murrian

I too have a link with the Wakefield family. One of my distant ancestors is Sophia Corbett who married William Waldive Wakefield. My maiden name is Corbett and I am presently researching my family tree on the Corbett side. So far have gone back to middle 1700’s.
